THE INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY ACT, 2014.
An Act to provide for the promotion of inventive and innovative
activities, to facilitate the acquisition of technology through the
grant and regulation of patents, utility models, industrial designs
and technovations and to provide for the designation of a
registrar, to provide for the functions of the registrar, and the
establishment of a register of industrial property rights and for
related matters.
DATE OF ASSENT: 6th January, 2014.

BE IT ENACTED by Parliament as follows:
PART I—PRELIMINARY
1. Commencement.
This Act shall come into force on a date that the Minister may, by
statutory instrument appoint; and the Minister may appoint different
dates for different provisions.
2. Interpretation.
In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires—
“application” means an application under this Act for the grant of—
(i)

a patent;

(ii) a certificate of utility model;
